Creativity is My Life

For too long I have labored under the false narrative that I had to sell all of my creative endeavors in order to be successful. That every minute of my existence should be finding a way to commodify my existence, to sell myself on social media and in life. Hustle culture so extreme that every single time I didn’t grow my audience or push my work I felt like a failure.

My creativity was suffering

Every hit felt like a failure, and because of that the stories and art that I had enjoyed creating for most of my life started to suffer. I started to worry more about what people would think rather than telling the stories that were inside me. That feeling of being adrift and lost in your own creative storm is one that was eating away at me every single day. I realized that I had tied my ability to capitalize my existence had affected my mental health and my creativity.

Unplugging Capitalism

I’m creating this space and my free tier on Patreon as a way to post my art and my stories that aren’t under contract or with a publisher already. I am just going to put them up here and would love to grow my community organically without worrying about hitting metrics like sales and reviews.

Growing Community

If you like what I post, stick around and see what madness pops into my head next. I am a middle aged mom with a raging case of ADHD and so many creative endeavors going on at once that sometimes it’s a storm inside my mind. I wish I could promise that I will post on a regular basis, but I know myself enough to know that if I set a specific demand my Pathological Demand Avoidance will set in and I will start to resent this space. Instead, I’m going to approach this like the chaos gremlin I am.

What Kind of Creativity?

All kinds. Everything. All of life is an adventure and I want to experience it all. I know that is impossible, but every time I am faced with learning a new art or craft I feel compelled to try. Mostly what I will post here will be paintings (watercolor and oil mostly), digital art, and writing. Whatever brings joy and happiness into my life at that moment will be shared here.

Possibilites

The world is wide open and full of possibilities if we can learn to stop thinking of everything as pass or fail. Humanity thrives on creativity and I want to embrace the idea that all of us can contribute to society without having to commodify our existence and work ourselves to death. I want to celebrate and enjoy life, and I hope you decide to join me in doing this.
